Ownership, plain English
Your domain is yours. Your code is yours. Forever.
The single biggest lie in the small-business web industry is when an agency "registers your domain for you" and then makes it a nightmare to leave. We don't do that. Here's how we handle it.
Who buys the domain?
You do — on your own credit card, in your own name, at Cloudflare or Namecheap (~$12/year). We handle it through Cover or walk you through it in a 10-minute call. You always own it, even if you fire us tomorrow.
Who hosts the site?
We do, on enterprise hosting, if you sign up for Cover — that's part of what $29/mo covers. SSL, CDN, uptime monitoring, automatic backups, repo management. If you'd rather host it yourself, no problem — we hand you the keys at launch and you take it from there. Most owners we work with prefer Cover; technical hosting and security is one less thing to think about.
What if I want to do updates myself?
That's what Dynamic is for. Essential gets you a static site we maintain on the back end. Dynamic adds a connected blog with a self-serve editor — you can write posts, swap photos, and publish without calling us. If you only need occasional copy edits and don't want to touch a CMS, Cover handles those for you.
What does my $29/mo actually pay for?
• Website hosting on enterprise infrastructure • GitHub code repository management • SSL renewal • Security patches • Performance + uptime monitoring • Priority on updates or new projects
Can I cancel Cover and keep the site online?
Yes. We'll help you migrate to your own hosting and hand over access to your GitHub repository with your site code. You keep the domain (you already own it). It's not a one-click process — there's hosting to set up and a repo to manage on your end — but we'll walk you through every step. Most owners decide to stay on Cover after seeing what's involved; that's fine, that's why it exists.
The paperwork
One page. In English. Signed on your phone.
Our agreement fits on one page. No 12-month lock-in, no auto-renew, no "discovery phase" billed separately. Just the scope, the price, the timeline, and who owns what.
Exactly what pages and features we're building. Listed by name.
Flat setup fee, 50% at signing, 50% at launch. Cover starts the month after launch if you choose it. Timeline with specific dates.
You own: your domain, your content, your photos, and the final deployable code. We own: our design process, our internal tools, our templates.
Cover: 30 days notice, any time. On cancellation, we hand over code + a 30-day transition window.
